Cell Phones for Soldiers FAQ’s

Q. What type of cell phone can be donated?
A. All types of cell phones can be donated and they do not need to be in working order.

Q. Where do I mail the donated phones?
A. Your free marketing kit contains shipping labels. Simply place the phone(s) in the bag provided, attach the shipping label to it and drop them in the mail.

Q. What is done with the cell phones?
A. The donated cell phones are sold to a company that recycles them. The money is used to purchase calling cards that are sent to our soldiers that are serving.

Q. Are the actual cell phones sent to soldiers?
A. No. Most of the cell phones that are donated are not GSM enabled, therefore would not work in the Middle East. In addition, for security reasons, cell phones cannot be sent directly to a US soldier serving in a war zone.

Q. Does private data need to be removed from my cell phone prior to donating it?
A. No, however you can remove your private data if you choose. ReCellular, the company that recycles the cell phones, has a very robust process that will remove any/all private data from the phone.

Q. Do I need to include my SYM card with my donated cell phone?
A. No, it is not a requirement; however it is alright to leave the SYM card in the donated phone. Most phones are not refurbished; therefore the donated cell phone does not need to be a working phone.

Q. Is there a receipt available for donating a phone?

Q. Is there a smaller version of the poster available for use in promoting the program?
